london sky garden
Visiting the Sky Garden in London had been on my bucket list for a while. Not only is it an amazing lunch or dinner spot it’s will also give you one of the best views of London- for free!
It’s a bit crazy that in an expensive city like London a cool place like this is free to visit, huh?
Booking a ticket
To make sure to get into the Sky Garden (there is a limited number of people they let in each day), it’s best to book yourself a ticket from their website.
Unfortunately, these free tickets, which are released on a weekly basis, “sell” out insanely fast. So it can be a bit of a challenge to actually secure your entry- which is something you might want to do if you’re only in London for a short amount of time.
Of course the venue also “welcomes walk-ins although spaces are limited and access is subject to availability.”
Another way to secure a spot is to just book a table at one of the many restaurants or bars. Unfortunately even these can be booked out for months in advance!
No ticket? What now?
We didn’t actually manage to get a ticket, even though we checked their website waaay in advance.
Fortunately though, there are several different entry time slots during the day. We didn’t manage to get in during the afternoon as their capacity was fully reached after 10 (!) minutes. The person at the door told us that we could try again in the evening.
My tip- if you don’t have any children (as it’s adults only)- put on some fancy clothes and nice shoes (this is important) and be at the Sky Garden at 6pm sharp. I guarantee that you will have a good chance to get in even without a ticket.
This is when they switch up the dress code and people with sneakers or shorts aren’t allowed in anymore. This makes it much easier to secure a walk-in spot, since many tourists seem(ed) to know about this. We actually felt a bit bad for the person working at the door who had to turn away dozens of angry tourists who didn’t adhere the dress code…
In the end we had an amazing time at the Sky Garden! I am so glad it actually worked out. After a stressful day running around London we were able to relax with some drinks and a very pretty sunset view of London. And there even was a life band 🙂
